Practice Areas — Finance
The Firm’s Finance Division has its roots in municipal finance. This division was established in 1990 and for several years limited its scope of service to municipal debt, concentrating on arbitrage rebate calculations, verification services for refunding transactions, coverage forecasts, and consulting for troubled issues. As time passed, we shifted our focus to include the services required by municipal debt issuers trying to secure financing, primarily financial forecasting and general debt consulting.
Several years ago, the Finance Division expanded its scope of services again, offering financial forecasting to non-municipal issuers and preparation assistance with business plans and loan packages, becoming an integral part of our clients’ project financing and development teams. We work closely with client management, project developers, consultants, underwriters and commercial lenders to get projects financed. We also work with management in analyzing new projects in the early stages of development to help structure projects that will be attractive to lenders, assist in assembling the finance team, and negotiating with lenders.
The finance division is based in Charleston and historically all finance related engagements have been serviced out of the Charleston office. Demand for these types of services has grown to the point that many finance-related engagements are serviced from our offices in Bridgeport and Beckley, with coordination and support from our Charleston office. Our Firm has developed close relationships with commercial lenders and venture capital groups throughout West Virginia, and several regional underwriting firms.
